“…it’s hard to not be bowled over by the sheer scale and design of the fully marbled bathing hall.”   Vogue

Eynsham Spa is an acclaimed new destination spa experience that occupies a woodland setting in the grounds of Estelle Manor, a former country house estate.

The spa combines contemporary concepts of wellness with the ancient social rituals of a Roman bath, bringing a fresh and engaging approach to contemporary spa design.

Working closely with concept and interior designer Roman and Williams, PLA have planned a balanced, symmetrical composition for the new spa, modelled on a traditional Roman bath house.

The soul of the bath house is the Tepidarium, a double height space  flooded with daylight containing a warm pool that offers a space for meeting and congregation.  Around this space are grouped a Calidarium, Frigidarium, hammam, steam room and sauna, offering a journey of hot and cold contrasting therapies.

As a counterpoint to the public ritual of the baths, personal healing  and relaxation therapies are offered in a series of intimate treatment rooms arranged around an outdoor cold pool dedicated to breathwork.

pla were commissioned as Lead Designers and took a central role in the development of the design from spatial planning and Statutory applications through to interior design coordination, detailed design and full construction documentation.
